How to Write a Book

Keeping The Juices Flowing

What you need to write a book

If you are thinking about writing a book then there are a few different things that you will need. One of the most important things you will need will be a vision of what you are looking to write. If you are looking to write a nonfiction book then you will need a real live story to base your book off of or information about a certain situation or subject.

If you are planning to write a fiction book then you will need an imagination. You will also need to know the audience that you plan to target with the book. Are you writing a children’s book, is it geared toward adults, is it informative? You need to know all these things before you can even get started.

Once you have figured all of this out you will then need to make an outline for your book. How many chapters do you plan to have? If it is a short book how many pages will there be? Then you will need to decide what each chapter will have in it, or if it is short what will each page contain. This will be a great way for you to be sure that you are putting in it what you need to and to make sure that everything is in proper order.

After you have made your outline you will want to start getting a rough draft of the book together. This will be a shorter copy of the book with a general idea of how it is going to go. You will probably spend a good bit of time creating this draft. You may want to also decide while you are doing this if you plan to have any pictures in the book, if so where will they be inserted.

After you have completed all of this you will then need to go over it and add to it. You will also want to correct any mistakes. You may want to print out your rough draft and take a colored pen to write in what you want to add and to circle your mistakes. This will help you when you are creating the final copy.

For the finally copy you will need to go off of your rough draft and add everything else into the book along with any pictures and corrections of your grammar. This copy you have created may be the finalized copy, or you may find that this is simply a second draft and you want to add or take out some parts of this. You will continue with the draft process till you have a copy that you are completely satisfied with. After you have completed this you will then need to take the book to a second party. This could be a professional editor or something that you trust to do a good job. Once this person finishes with the book you will then want to see if you can get your book published. You will also want to create a cover for the book and a table of contents of the chapters. You may also want to create a bibliography and possible even a summary of your book for the back cover. Then your book writing process is complete.
